Solitude Found

Turns out we don't have to go backpacking to find a camping spot all to ourselves after all.  This weekend Barry and I headed to Bonney Meadows on the east side of Mount Hood.  We had a lovely, rustic campsite and were the only people at the entire campground.  Perfect.  There was a pretty hike down to Boulder Lakes (I took a nice little nap next to one of them), an idyllic grassy meadow with a creek running through it, and a quick hike up to Bonney Butte with amazing views of Mount Hood and the meadow in which we camped.  Since we were car camping, I didn't have to sacrifice on the food and drink front (hello, scrambled eggs with feta, potatoes with red onion, and bacon for breakfast!).  And since the last four miles of the ride there are over some pretty intense terrain (may I recommend a four-wheel drive, high clearance vehicle to get you there?), we were able to escape the hustle and bustle of other campgrounds that have left us a little annoyed this summer.  We're already talking about our next trip back.  It might just be this upcoming weekend.

Because Jennifer Asked

Here's something we've eaten recently:

Had it for dinner late last week,
right before we went camping...

Slowly But Surely

The necklaces are making their way into the sulu-design shop.  Click on images above to take you to listings, or check out the entire shop here.  I may add more of the pieces from the last post to the shop, or I may save them for boutiques here in Portland.  E-mail me at sulu-design@hotmail.com if one of the ones you're hankering for isn't listed above.  Thank you for your interest in them.  It's been so nice to hear from several of you through e-mail.  I am always truly thankful for your feedback on my designs.

It's taken me a while to get around to listing the necklaces in the shop for lots of little reasons - the best one being that Barry and I just celebrated our 11 year wedding anniversary.  We walked, ate, and drank our way through Portland last weekend, making stops at Le Pigeon, Burnside Brewing Company, Produce Row Cafe, Moonshine, Amnesia Brewery, and Por Que No.  We took in amazing views of Portland and the surrounding hills on a stroll over the Burnside Bridge.  And we plan on continuing the celebration this weekend with a quick camping trip.  I'm pretty darn psyched for more camping.  And I'm happier and more content than I can express, being married to my best friend.

Unintentional Splurge

I went to one of my favorite Portland bead shops the day I got back into town.  I got excited by several strands of beads that were a little more expensive than what I usually buy for sulu-design jewelry making (that my pieces are one-of-a-kind, handmade, and affordable has always been important to me).  There was rich lapis lazuli, deep labradorite, sparkly iolite... yes, yes, and yes.  I decided to splurge and to make some pieces that will cost a little more than my other designs but that will still be reasonably priced.

On my drive home from the bead shop, I was involved in a hit and run accident (I did neither the hitting nor the running).  I'm fine.  The car runs, although it looks like it has a black eye. With the insurance deductible factored in, the trip to the bead shop ended up being much more of a splurge than I'd imagined.  I'm still psyched I got those beads.

I plan on eventually taking some of the necklaces above to the Portland boutiques that carry sulu-design, but I've had a few inquiries about sulu-design necklaces being available for sale on-line.  I may list a few in my etsy shop, but before I do so I'd be happy to make the pieces above available to blog readers.  If you're interested in any of them, e-mail me at sulu-design@hotmail.com and I'll send additional photos, details, and prices.  They range from $38 - $58 (not so bad, right?).

Drive safely, friends.

Back...

from a great trip to see family in Cleveland.

I reconnected with two friends who I hadn't seen in years.
(Proof that it's possible to do without a Facebook account.)
I hope to see a lot more of Elizabeth and Brooke in the future.

I spent lots of time with my sweet nephews and niece,
caught up with my brother and sister and their spouses,
and had good hang out time with my mom and dad.
I might have unleashed my itch to organize
on my parents' guest bedroom closet.
And on their basement.
And on their pantry...

I made quick work of this plum crumble (thanks, Mom).
We celebrated my mom's birthday a few days early
(thanks for the tasty dinner, Maryanne,
and thanks for the cake recipe, Janine).

And I realized that I still have some maturing to do
when it comes to dealing with the little issues
that arise within every family.

Great trip.  Great to be back, too.

Remeber When...

I used to post about jewelry here?  Maybe not... it's been two and a half months since I've done so.  That's not to say things haven't been moving right along with sulu-design.  I've just bad about showing and telling here.  I did remember to bring my camera with me when I made a jewelry delivery today so that I could show you some of what's new.  The necklaces and earrings you see below (along with several other pieces) are now available at Betsy & Iya.

There are still a few colorful pieces in the sulu-design shop, too.

I'm getting ready for a trip to Cleveland next week
to see my family.  You know I love my family.  I'm so excited!
See you when I return.
